Hans was born in Elmhurst NY and moved to Little Neck at age 11. He went to P.S. 94 and Bayside High. After college he served in the Army in Viet Nam as a sergeant. Married Susanne in 1970 and had a 30 year career with the Society for the prevention of cruelty to children where he was known as a tenacious proponent for the young, testifying on their behalf in many court cases. He didn't speak much about his service in the Army but he got to 'Nam during the Tet offensive and spent the year in the boondocks as a weapons specialist. It was enough to make him a staunch opponent of war. He was a hell of a nice guy with a wry sense of humor. Our families vacationed together a few times. I only wish we lived closer than the 50 miles that separated us.
I've always remembered Hans as a gentle and kind guy. We share the same birthday. I am so happy he had a family and it appears a good life. It was so well deserved~!
