Dennis died of pneumonia in Columbia Presbyterian Hospital at approximately age 40, following a heart transplant. His own heart had been badly damaged by Type I diabetes.
I owe Dennis a debt of gratitude that is profound, one that I will feel as long as I live. He spoke to me from that damaged heart of his one day, in a way that touched my own. The kindness he did me that day literally changed my life, very much for the better. It still brings tears to my eyes when I think of it.
Dennis' heart may have been damaged, but it was bigger than any of us realized. I cherish his memory.
