Fred Bertino was one of my closest friends since we shared a practice room at BHS. His untimely death at 52 in 1994 stunned all who knew him. Educated in Bologna, Italy, he was a radiologist and partner in South Shore Radiology on Long Island. He left behind a wilfe of 7 years and 3 small boys, the youngest not yet 1. Next year all three of them will be in college. He was thoughtful and kind and practiced medicine the old fashioned way with concern for his patients. 16 years later, hardly a day goes by that I don't think of him and miss him. Frank Gangloff
